One of the things we at Misty River Books focus on is true Canadian Literature. Quite frequently in the larger big box bookstores local authors, heck, simply CANADIAN authors get lost in the shuffle! When you step into the Misty River Books store, you will find sections devoted to Canadian literature as well as an are specifically focused on Terrace authors! One of the most fascinating sections in the store is the one concentrating on First Nations literature and art – something you don’t commonly find in the generic world of big-box retail, where the focus is in the New York Times bestseller list!

Begun as a printed review (still in print as of today) in 1959 and edited by George Woodcock , the University of British Columbia devoted this publication solely to the critical discussion of Canadian writing. This Quarterly celebrated its 50th birthday in 2009. While the printed version is fascinating and a must read for Canadian literary devotees, the website is a grand place to begin your journey of discovery. As a nationally focused magazine whose exclusive focus is poetry and poetry-related reviews, interviews and articles, Arc occupies near-exclusive terrain: it has the longest uninterrupted publishing history of a poetry-only literary journal in the country, is the only one of its kind in Ontario, and maintains a commitment to extensive critical discussion of poetry as a form, of work by new poets and new work by established poets.
